$80 plus $20 for materials

Using fantastic new MTN water base spray paints Mark will demonstrate and then give YOU ample time to express yourself through this wonderful media! This paint is permanent once dry, but can be blended with a wet brush to add value range and brush strokes! Due to its low-toxicity and virtually no smell we will be able to work inside the Riley St. Art Supply store! Bring anything you’d like to work with as a surface (paper, fabric, leather, old quilts, canvas, glass, etc.) AND anything you’d like to use as a stencil. Mark will demonstrate how a WIDE variety of objects, plant material, fabrics and woven materials, etc. can be used as “found” stencils.

Mark has worked extensively with spray paints in his own art making — on quilts, fabrics, woven material, leather, paper, and boards! He even made a SEAT for a motorkar in Peru with spray painted imagery! A number of his exhibited Artist Books and books by his students have also been made with spray painted imagery…

The Course will cover:

  • basic do’s and don’ts with spray paints
  • practices to make your spray paints last longer
  • how to use a variety of natural and manmade objects as stencils
  • cutting stencils and a variety of materials to use for cut stencils
  • some of the VAST contemporary work being done with spray paint
  • ow to layer colors to create value and contrast
  • Materials fee covers: spray paints to use during workshop (more available for purchase at Riley St.)

and a wide variety of surfaces to work on (cool papers, paper boards, etc.)
